It is with great sadness that the Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association Board must say goodbye to our good friend and fellow board member, Matt McCabe. This goodbye is one that impacts our entire community.

Matt had been a member of the DBA for over 20 years. He was responsible for many initiatives including the Local Living Guide, which became a valuable fundraising effort for the organization. He served on many DBA Board committees, and as Chair of the Nominating Committee, was responsible for replenishing new members as others termed out.

Whenever there was an issue to resolve, a platform to consider or an effort to execute, Matt McCabe was there - a true team player and consistent advocate for the local businesses in Downtown Saratoga Springs.

A talented musician, Matt freely offered his expertise to the DBA and supplied sound equipment whenever needed. He could always be relied upon to donate a guitar toward our fundraising efforts or to perform at our downtown events.

On a personal level, Matt was a friend, as well as colleague and mentor to many Board Members. Although a busy man running multiple businesses, Matt always had time for a kind word or conversation and was more than willing to help out fellow business owners with whatever they might be coping with. His standing invitation to "C'mon down to the 'Bunker'", which is how he referred to his lower level Broadway location next to City Hall, was his way of saying "let's get together and talk about it!"

In addition to being a downtown business owner since 1994. Matt's experience and wisdom were accrued as a result of serving as Saratoga Springs Commissioner of Finance for two terms. He was also a participant on many non-profit and civic organization boards including Discover Saratoga. His willingness to give his input and offer suggestions were valued assets that were appreciated by everyone who knew him.

Matt was a family man whose love for his three sons permeated everything he engaged in. Matt could be described as creative and quick-witted in thought, humble in spirit, and giving in nature.

The Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association offers their prayers, support and condolences to the McCabe family. As a Board, we move forward with heavy hearts and fond memories of a wonderful man who was a cornerstone of our community.

His warm presence will be sorely missed, yet always remembered.

Caffe Lena will be celebrating and remembering Matt's life on Saturday, February 20th 2020, with a special live stream show featuring songs, stories and photos of our dear friend.

If you'd like to contribute, we ask that you send photos and good quality (1280x720) videos to Reese Fulmer at reese@caffelena.org.

If you'd like to share a song but do not have the recording capabilities, their tech team can record you from the Caffe Lena stage. Rick Bolton will be setting up a recording schedule so please reach out to him or anyone on our staff and we'll be able to make it happen. There has already been an outpouring of support so they are asking that everyone keep their contributions to 3-4 minutes.

New Year Celebration

Check out the new Saratoga Regional Calendar Partnership Calendar of Events

Saratoga Springs, NY has gone from being the “August Place to Be”
to an exciting, culturally sophisticated, year round destination.

This, in no small part, is because of the cooperation of the Downtown Business Association, Convention and Tourism Bureau, the City Center, Chamber of Commerce, Special Assessment District, our local government, police force, Preservation Foundation, and the Historical Society.

The Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association is literally paving the way for Saratoga Springs and its future, we have different challenges to face, new, fresh faces adding to the talent pool and hopefully a greater number of members becoming involved. The talent, brainpower and resources for success are all here.
