On Opening Day of the Saratoga Racing Season with Live Performances Downtown
SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – June 28, 2022 - The Saratoga thoroughbred racing season is coming back and the Saratoga Springs Downtown Business Association invites you downtown to Celebrate Saratoga! The event is scheduled for Thursday, July 14th from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm throughout downtown Saratoga.
Celebrate Saratoga, presented by 4 Pillar Funding, is a performance-driven event welcoming people to downtown Saratoga for the Opening Day of the Saratoga Race Course. The event showcases downtown retailers, restaurants, and live music. Soul Session's Garland Nelson's Motown tribute ensemble Reflections will be performing live on the main stage, while local performers will play at notable landmarks throughout downtown. Meet Upset and Poppy - the miniature horses, enjoy local grub and find out who wins this year's Window Decorating Contest, presented by NYRA.
Racing fans, visitors, and the local community are invited to enjoy the vibrancy of our charming city with live music performances throughout the downtown area, including Soul Session’s Garland Nelson and his Motown tribute ensemble, Reflections, on the main stage located at the Spa City Motor Lodge on the corner of Broadway and Division street, in the heart of downtown. Reflection’s music pays tribute to the golden age of Soul Music from Motown, Staxx Records, Chess Records, and Philadelphia International.
Other performances include Whiskey River Band playing on Caroline Street and Putnam Street. Caroline Street will be closed to traffic from Broadway to Putnam Street, allowing for more pedestrians to flow and gather to listen to the performances. Life Line will be at Impressions, Rick Bolton and Jackie Dugas from Jacksland will be at the Arcade Building, Jeanine Ouderkirk Duo will be at the Saratoga Arts Building, Jes Hudak will be at Ben and Jerry’s, Jeff Brisbin at the Spa City Cafe, and the Dave Fisk Jazz Quartet will be outside Adirondack Trust Company.

In combination with the Celebrate Saratoga event, storefront windows in the downtown area will be decorated as part of the celebration welcoming faces to the Saratoga Race Course. Window decorations will be judged by legendary horsing racing announcer Tom Durkin, popular NEWS10 ABC Saratoga Race Track reporter Cassie Hudson, and local Family Ties actor and financial consultant Scott Valentine. The winners will be announced on the main stage Thursday night and broadcast live on NYRA-TV on July 15th for the Celebrate Saratoga race!
The First place prize includes 2 tickets to the Rail at the 1863 Club, the Second place includes 2 clubhouse reserved seats, and the Third place includes 2 grandstand reserved seats. (all exclude Travers and Whitney Day).
For the public, there will be a drawing at each participating store, where they can Enter to Win the following prize: 2 Clubhouse Reserved Seats for Travers Day.
